Festival Calendar

January

Nobel Laureate Week – St Lucia has two Nobel Laureates, more per capita than any other country in the world. To honour their achievements a week of events is organised around their birth dates, which were both 23rd January.

February

Independence Day – St Lucia became independent on the 22nd February 1979. Official parades and special activities mark the occasion. Former colonial powers Great Britain and France, send military contingents to participate in the celebrations.

April

Heineken Kalalu World Music Festival – ‘You’d swear you were in Brazil or Abidjan’ a quote from one festival goer. Artists from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean showcase this exciting event.

International Earth Day – Each day begins with the Soleil Leve (sunrise) ceremony and ends with the Soleil Couche (sunset) ceremony. These festivals are held at the islands beauty spots.

Cricket: ICC World Cup Twenty20 Championships – Twenty20 is a new rapid three hour game, limited to only 20 overs per side. The Caribbean has been selected to host these championships.

May

St Lucia Jazz Festival – Spread over a ten day period, with international acts from all music genres from all over the world.

St Lucia Gold Open – Two day event which is held at the St Lucia Golf  and Country Club. It is open to all amateurs and is very popular with all Caribbean golfers.

Desmond Skeete Memorial – An 18 hole charity tournament that is held during the Jazz Festival weekend.

June/July

Carnival – The biggest show in the islands calendar. Activities spanning a month culminate in early July calypso and Soca monarch competitions, a carnival sow, Panorama the steel pan competition and two days of “Jump Up”.

August

Coca-Cola Junior International Tennis Federation – This attracts almost 200 young tennis players from all over the world. Tournament winners receive up to 25 world-ranking points.

Emancipation Day and National Heroes Day – August 1st is celebrated in remembrance of the abolition of slavery in 1834

Market Feast – Held at the Castries Market, the produce vendors celebrate their special day, There is music, entertainment and plenty of food.

September

St Lucia Bill Fishing Tournament: A four day fishing competition that attracts anglers from all over the world.

October

Creole Heritage Month – Several Communities are chosen to host various events.

November

Rotary Club of Gros Islet Golf Tournament – A one day tournament held to raise money for Rotary Club projects.

December 

Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) – St Lucia welcomes the worlds largest transoceanic race. Over 200 boats leave Gran Canaria the first week in November, cross the Atlantic and finish in Rodney Bay, St Lucia.
